Roza’s new shoes
Journal, page 1 – Roza’s new shoes
This page is a quick look at character design and how I plan to modify Roza’s costume in the next chapter.
It’s tricky to balance between a believable, functional design, and a design that’s pared to the bare essence. Although an adjustable strap makes sense for Roza’s boot, it doesn’t really add much in terms of form or design, it’s just superficial detail. Too much detail in uninteresting places detracts from the focal point of the panel, often the character’s face or hands. And… maybe I just don’t want to keep track of that stupid buckle for hundreds of panels!

Chapter 3 script (with deleted scenes!)
In the spirit of ‘Behind the Scenes’ I’ve got another tidbit to share- the initial outline and script for Roza and the Sparrow Knight. About 6 pages were cut from the final story, so those scenes can be found here, as well as an extended ending. I cut a lot of dialog and chit-chat to pick up the pace. For the sake of Chapter 4, it can be assumed that those conversations never happened.
You may have figured out a few things from Chapter 3 on your own, but in case you didn’t you’ll find a few spoilers.
Below the cut you’ll find the entire script, so read on!

Roza – Behind the Scenes
One thing I wasn’t able to do well on the last chapter of Roza was planning.
I’d hoped to finish all the layouts and really noodle them over before digging into full-color pages. You know what they say about the best laid plans…
It might be a while before I can go full-steam into Chapter 4, since I’ve got a few other projects on my plate. In the meanwhile, I plan to use my free time to start a Chapter 4 Production Journal. It’s the hip thing to do for games and movies nowadays. I’ll post my concepts, scripts, and layouts here as time allows. I love getting reader feedback and I think sharing my ideas in the planning stage will help me to avoid the issues with pacing and consistency I tend to run into. I get antsy to post pages and I hate leaving the site idle for months at a time, so I think showing a little progress would be nice.
SO! Long story short-
Roza and the Sunken Kingdom : Behind the Scenes Production Journal. Coming soon!
