Petra
Petra isn’t a major character, her name isn’t even mentioned, but there’s nothing worse when I’m trying to draw a page than getting hung up on random secondary characters. So, planning ahead saves strife in the long run.
Also, page is early! Just because. There’s a new Petra-related vote incentive as well.

The chillamunk
Another odd critter from Roza’s world, as the name implies it’s an odd cross between chinchilla and chipmunk. Or maybe it’s more like a jerboa or springhare? In any case, I totally planned to have these guys hopping around in the background in chapter 3, and I totally forgot about them. Maybe I can squeeze a few into chapter 4. I like hiding a couple odd animal cameos in each book, like the gryphon-jay in Chapter 2.

The Yak Village
Journal, page 2 – The Yak Village
As much as I like the Yak People, they didn’t make the cut for Chapter 4, but you get a glimpse of them here. Who knows what other strange creatures live in Roza’s neighborhood?

Roza’s new shoes
Journal, page 1 – Roza’s new shoes
This page is a quick look at character design and how I plan to modify Roza’s costume in the next chapter.
It’s tricky to balance between a believable, functional design, and a design that’s pared to the bare essence. Although an adjustable strap makes sense for Roza’s boot, it doesn’t really add much in terms of form or design, it’s just superficial detail. Too much detail in uninteresting places detracts from the focal point of the panel, often the character’s face or hands. And… maybe I just don’t want to keep track of that stupid buckle for hundreds of panels!
